Boy do I hear you about the difficulties of the "lensing problem." For what it's worth, your writing has been one of the most successful approaches I've seen at encapsulating the fractal and the crystalline in a linear medium.

I don't know what God is calling you to do, Cormac, but I hope you take some comfort in knowing you have touched at least one person's life with your writing and example.

Thank you, Kenneth, I appreciate your friendship and support very, very much. I wrote this essay to document all the uncertainty I was feeling leading up to the Symbolic World Summit. I return now with resolve instead, resolve to keep plugging away, course unaltered. Once I recover from all the travel and excitement, maybe I'll even be productive again.

Well that's wonderful news! Really glad to hear that the summit had a reenergizing effect on you. Looks like it was quite an enriching experience - I wish I had been able to go. I look forward to the work that'll eventually blossom from it.

Oh, we definitely missed you, that's for sure. Hopefully we can catch up some time. There's some momentum towards restarting our Discord meetings, perhaps on a monthly basis. We'll see. We still can't find a time.

Cormac, thank you for writing. Yours is one of the only Substacks I recommend from my own. I hope that has brought at least one person your way and I hope they have seen what I see in your writing. I too struggle with my purpose in life. Other people probably know my purpose better than I do! At least thats the old world way of looking at it. Reading this has inspired me to keep going with my own struggle, since even in the struggle there can be a connection to others.

I hope to meet one day in person. Also, I know the Iakovos you mentioned. James, he’s good people. May we all meet one day!

William Maximos, I thank God for your inspiration — and I have met James, when he came to Antiochian Village in Ligonier, if I recall correctly, for the House of Studies program. I live just thirty minutes from there and was visiting a friend when I happened to run into him. I couldn't connect him with his online persona until he said Iakovos, and that's how I recognized him.

Glory to God. I’ve applied to the Masters of Theology at AHOS. We’ll see what happens.

Thank you for this, Cormac. You know, I was thinking about the trajectory of St. Sophrony’s life- while I don’t have the symbolic chops to understand it as well as you might, I see deep similarities. Thank you for all the work you put into these articles. They are profoundly helpful.

Looking forward to meeting you this weekend!

Let the internet record show that I replied to this comment in person and was happy to have done so. Amen.

This was the right article for the moment, on the eve of the Symbolic World Summit. It threads us together and reminds us of our purpose. An excellent journal post, insightful and vulnerable.

And yes, you had my symbolism of Arrival meter peeking by the second paragraph, especially the eternity-time, logos-story section.

Bookmarked this one.

I myself was reminded of Arrival with no prompting from you — figured I should work that reference in somewhere! Thank you dearly for your generous friendship.
